Chats Palace

Chats Palace is a community arts centre and theatre in a grade II listed building on Brooksby's Walk in Hackney, a short walk from Chatsworth Road and Homerton Overground station. Alongside its own programme of music, performance, family and community events, it hires out a black-box theatre with a lighting rig and PA, the Library Bar in the former children's library, a studio and the skylit Blue Room for parties, receptions, meetings, conferences, performances, rehearsals and filming. The bar and theatre together host celebrations from 20 to 200 guests, and the bar alone up to 50.

The entire ground floor comprises the black-box theatre, the Library Bar and the lobby, hireable together as one. The theatre offers full technical facilities including AV, lighting and an integrated PA system. The dancefloor can cover the floor and the raised stage can be removed. Seating arranges in most configurations imaginable. The Library Bar sits at the heart of the building in what was once the Children's Library, with a bar, original librarian's counter and comfortable lounge area. This combined space works well for weddings, private parties and live music events.

Situated at the heart of the building in what used to be the Children's Library, the Library Bar has an original librarian's counter where drinks are ordered. A large bowler hat mural by East London street-artist Angry Dan hangs above the bar, alongside five limerick-topped tables commissioned by the same artist. The space suits parties, workshops and gatherings of all kinds, as well as smaller scale performances such as live music, spoken word, book launches and cabaret. Decorations are welcome and the space can be dressed for your event.

A rectangular timber-floored room with white walls and a mid-height arched glazed ceiling that provides steady, diffuse daylight. The space is open and uncluttered, with wall-mounted strip lights for supplementary illumination. Fitted full-height mirrors allow performers and models to check posture and framing.
